A bar is set to open at Gold Coast’s busy intersection with Kings Road next month.
Hopdoddy Burger Bar will open at the intersection of Kings Road and Mooloolaba Road on December 13.
Owner Tim Lillis said the restaurant had been waiting for the right location since the Gold Coast Council started planning for the area in 2013.
“We’ve been working with a lot of people and planning and it just all came together,” Mr Lillislis said.
“I love Melbourne and I love the city so it’s always a little bit of a shock to hear that something like this can happen on the Gold Road.”
The Gold Coast has been a popular shopping and dining destination since the 1960s, but many of the businesses that used to fill those spaces have closed.
Mr Lillisp said the bar was part of a bigger vision to revitalise the Gold Highway.
“This bar is going to be a beacon of hope to people who are looking to shop and eat and have a great time on a Gold Coast weekend,” he said.
He said the location was perfect for Gold Coast locals who might not normally shop on a busy Gold Coast street.
“It’s very easy to get to the Gold coast, it’s really close to the airport and you can walk to the beaches or the shopping centres,” Mr Rau said.
